About Elliptical Trainers
Elliptical trainers represent the next wave of advancement in low-impact cardiovascular exercise machines and continue to grow in popularity. By simulating motions experienced through walking, stepping, cycling, and skiing, elliptical machines allow for a smooth and fluid motion while building strength in the arms and legs. Similar to the exercise position for treadmills, elliptical trainers are used by standing in an upright position while holding the handrails of the machine. With elliptical trainers, however, your feet remain in the foot pedals throughout the exercise regimen and circulate in a smooth and seamless motion, resulting in little to no impact on the knees, back, and hips.

Elliptical trainers are compatible for all ages and fitness levels and allow you to select the difficulty level through the incline and intensity settings. Additionally, elliptical trainers allow you to determine the complexity of your workout based on your needs, all while listening to music, watching television, or reading a magazine while exercising in the comfort and safety of your own home.

Many elliptical trainers include an array of challenging programs, forward and reverse directional movement, EKG grip pulse handles, a lightweight portable design with easy fold-up capability, and a monitor displaying calories burned, distance, speed, time, and heart rate. Other types of exercise machines, namely treadmills and bikes, offer excellent cardiovascular exercise and muscular training for the legs in a forward-motion exercise. Elliptical trainers take this to the next level by offering an upper and lower body workout with dual motion, challenging and diverse programs, and a low-impact exercise machine that won't strain sensitive joints.

5 out of 5 stars Exceeds expectations   August 20, 2010
Jeffrey L. Tucker (South Range, WI USA)
I put off purchasing an elliptical trainer because I came from the 'old' school. A decade ago I had a NordicTrack ski machine and had lost a lot of weight I had accumulated so I had a clear bias. I thought these new machines were not going to work me hard and their more limited motion than what I was used to would limit a workout. I was wrong. One of the things I found with my ski machine was that the more extended motion actually began to work against me, I began to dread my workouts - they were a matter of necessity, not desire. I've had this machine a week now. The first work out was the toughest - I lasted 10 minutes. The elliptical definitely works muscles I haven't worked before, more on the thighs than the ski machine did. I did some reading online and discovered what I should be targeting for my exercise target heart rate and this machine does a GREAT job of keeping me there. I'm up to 24 minutes and I actually look forward to the workouts. The speakers are great - I hook up my iPhone to it and listen to podcasts or music. Every so often I hold onto the center handles and it shows me my heart rate so I can adjust my workout based on the range I need to stay in to lose weight. The added digital information keeps me occupied - one of the things I hate about just going for walks is that I have no clue how far I've gone or how many calories I've burned. Now I have a screen in front of me giving me that information making me feel like I'm actually achieving some goals. And as it gets colder and colder, I won't have to try to trudge through the snow in order to try and get exercise.

The machine itself is solid. I personally haven't had any issues with any side to side swaying or movement and I have it set up in a room with thick carpet. It's quiet so I don't have any issues listening to my podcasts and with the pocket for ipods/mp3 players I can also play videos and watch them while I exercise. The plastic they used wouldn't be something I'd use on anything outside but that said, what is an elliptical going to run into? I have walked slow and fast, nearly run on it, and pedaled it backwards. I like that I look forward to my workouts - granted it's only been a week but I'm determined to lose the weight I've again accumulated from sitting through too many meetings. I already feel better about myself and have a bit more energy. I'm tracking my workouts with a notebook, writing down calories, distance and time and it's fun to see me already making progress.

I delayed buying this machine because I got bogged down reading reviews and trying to determine if this was the right machine for me and reading reviews from people who loved or hated this machine. I finally determined I've never owned an elliptical so who cares if I buy one with flywheel on the front versus the back - I need to start moving and doing something. This EX-58 is helping me do it and I'm thrilled with the machine.

3 out of 5 stars Shipping is free, storage is NOT, item comes very quickly   August 17, 2010

I investigated this item, reading several reviews on several sites. I intentionally chose to purchase from Amazon. Everything indicated that estimated delivery date would be 2 weeks from purchase date. Unfortunately for me, delivery availability was FOUR (4) days after purchase. Delivery company began charging daily storage rates citing "unsuccessful attempts" to contact me. I contacted them, unsuccessfully, for SIX (6) before item was delivered.

It would have been cheaper to buy the item somewhere else and pay taxes and shipping. I saved nothing.

5 out of 5 stars So far so good!   August 9, 2010

Got this as a gift, but I did the picking out of it. Preferred it over a Schwinn due to the warranty being much better. Putting it together was not too difficult, I did it by myself. The parts bags lost their labels, but was able to figure them out. Came with all the required tools. There is a little sound, not exactly a squeak to the left side, but I just need to check over all the tightenings I think, its not all the time. FOr the work out-it definitely is a lot harder than the ones at the fitness center I go to, so was not able to jump on and do 30 minutes right away. It is slowly getting a little easier at the lowest setting that I may be able to up to level 2! It feels sturdy enough, just wish it had a step area on the back to get onto the foot pedals.

5 out of 5 stars The EX-58 DELIVERS !!!   May 21, 2010

We have had our EX-58 for about two weeks now, let's start at the beginning.
Delivery was quick and painless, most difficult part of the construction was the unboxing, once everything was laid out the actual construction was pretty straight forward, all small parts were bagged and numbered, all tools provided, it took a little over a half hour to assemble. I took the extra step of adding lithium grease to all moving parts, they were all pre lubed from the factory, but IMO you can never have enough grease on moving parts. The first use....well it was different, if you have never used an elliptical before they work differnt muscles than your standard treadmill. The first day I did 8 minutes and my legs were sore, two days later I hit it again, got my tunes going (love the speakers) and just lost myself in the workout, 30 minutes later I had completed my workout, and I was sweating like crazy. After my first week of using the trainer I had lost four pounds. The elliptical is quiet and does everything expected. I highly reccomend this unit.

Just got it delivered today after order a week ago. Putting it together was simple, just follow the directions provided. I was able to put it together by myself, but some of the pieces are quite heavy. Tested it for 15 minutes and it worked very well. Will update review after a few weaks of use. The bottle rack is a little low, but still usable. Speakers are a nice addition, no wires and no gym!

Been about a month and a half since I got this elliptical and it is still running like the first day I got it. The speakers are an awesome part to this as I can play music from my cell phone and have everything on my phone at my fingertips while working out. GOOD BUY!
